About Moravian Book and Gift Shop

The Moravian Book and Gift Shop began as a dream of sharing the rich heritage of the Moravian Church with the community and the world. The dream was fulfilled in 1965 when the Board of Christian Education and Evangelism opened the shop in a room of its administrative building in Old Salem, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Old Salem was the ideal place to share Moravian faith and practices, since it is the village where Moravians in 1766 built their largest settlement in North Carolina.

The store began with a dual mission: to share the faith of the Moravian Church as a part of the worldwide Christian church, and to give away its profits for the benefit of agencies and individuals serving those in need.  This is a mission that continues to this day.  Since its beginning, the Moravian Book and Gift Shop has given away over $600,000 to missions all over the world.

The Moravian Book and Gift Shop started modestly by selling Bibles and commentaries, other religious books, church supplies, and a few special gifts made by craftspeople in the area and from Europe.  Today we are considered one of the finest gift shops on the East Coast, with a wide variety of unique gifts, in particular featuring Moravian Stars, Moravian Candles, and Moravian Cookies.  Also featured are handmade crafts and and fine art, American primitives and metalwork, plus a large selection of Christmas items that are available year-round.  All of these unique and beautiful items are on display in our shop located on Salem Square.

You are invited to browse our on-line store.  Please
contact us if you have any questions. Come and visit "The Store with a Mission" on the Square in Old Salem, the restored Moravian village, while visiting North Carolina.  To learn more about the Moravians, please find information available at Moravian Church in America.
